CoCo – Cooking Connects is a project supported by the Bundesministerium für Migration und Flüchtlinge.
With the project CoCo – Cooking Connects, we bring people from Kiel together around one table. Two people – one with and one without a refugee or migration background – team up as a Cooking Couple and prepare their favorite meal together. While cooking, they talk in a video podcast about their lives, cultures, and personal experiences. It’s all about food – but also about getting to know each other and breaking down prejudices. With CoCo we show: Cooking connects!
Do you enjoy cooking and want to meet new people and hear their stories? Then join our video podcast! Together with a person with or without a migration or refugee background, you’ll form a Cooking Couple and talk about your favorite dishes, personal experiences, and cultural traditions. The cooking session and the podcast recording take place on different days. Your approximately 30-minute episode will be published on YouTube and Spotify.

After each podcast episode, a CoCo cooking event takes place in Kiel, organized by the Cooking Couple with support from kulturgrenzenlos. Everyone is welcome to join! Together, we cook the dishes featured in the podcast. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, ask questions, and taste delicious food. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a great cook or a beginner – the most important thing is that you want to take part!
On the CoCo food blog, you’ll find the recipes and stories from the project. We share what came out of the cooking events – with photos, step-by-step instructions, and personal quotes. This way, you can recreate the dishes at home and learn more about the people behind the food. The blog offers insights into different cultures and shows what people in Kiel share with one another.

Mir macht besonders die Arbeit mit Menschen Spaß. Die Idee eines Begegnungsprojekts, bei dem Menschen mit unterschiedlichen kulturellen Hintergründen aufeinandertreffen finde ich besonders wichtig, um Vorurteile abzubauen und dazu beizutragen, gemeinsam eine offene, bunte Gesellschaft zu gestalten, in der sich jede Person willkommen fühlt. Insbesondere im momentanen gesellschaftspolitischen Klima ist es mir wichtig, mich für ein diverses und friedliches Miteinander einzusetzen.
Interkultureller Austausch bedeutet für mich, sich zu trauen, über den eigenen Tellerrand hinauszublicken, offen auf Menschen und ihre Lebenswelten zuzugehen und neue Perspektiven einzunehmen.
