Antonia und Emre

“It has definitely changed my impression of people interested in computer science,” Antonia replies when asked if there’s anything she has learned from her tandem partner Emre. They both start laughing, and Emre shares: “I've been interested in computers since I was 5 years old. At first, my parents wanted to show me how to use a computer, and it wasn't long before I had to explain everything to them. I've always enjoyed programming, and gaming was just a good way to communicate with someone.”

Emre comes from Turkey and is studying computer science in Kiel. He used to live with his parents, brother and sister in Eutin, but moved into a shared flat in Kiel at the end of last year.

Antonia, who is training in nursing at the UKSH and would like to study medicine afterwards, appreciates Emre’s ambition and sense of humour, which she can share with him: ‘I find it so impressive how he gets stuck into the exams and then manages to pass them,’ she says. ‘We also laugh a lot and just get on really well. He’s saved me as ‘Grandma’ in his mobile phone because I always sleep so much and he always pulls everything off’. Emre grins: ‘Yes, but we’ve also done a lot together. For example, the two have been bouldering together and to a concert, even if it turns out that indie music is not one of Emre’s favourite genres. But there is one thing the two definitely share and that is their enthusiasm for plants. ‘Antonia just has so many plants in her room,’ laughs Emre. So last summer they were drawn to the botanical garden at Kiel University and the two of them tell me about their amusing walk through the botanical garden: ‘It was just far too hot in the greenhouses and Emre sent me a thousand photos of plants afterwards,’ Antonia says and they both laugh.

From the very beginning, they have been determined to go canoeing together, but it has to get warmer first. Until then, they meet up to cook, go for walks or watch movies.

  • Rolle im Projekt:
Projektkoordinatorin im Projekt “CoCo – Cooking Connects”
  • Was motiviert dich, bei uns mitzuarbeiten?

  • Was bedeutet dir interkultureller Austausch?
